Punjab Police Constable arrested for robbing Gold Jewellery from Courier in Sangrur

In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police apprehended constable Ashish Kumar for his role in snatching two bags, carrying 3.75 kg of gold and precious stones, from a Delhi-based courier company employee at Sangrur railway station. The arrest occurred on Tuesday, with Kumar stationed at the City 1 police station in Abohar, Fazilka district.

Arrest and recoveries

Kumar, a resident of Ram Sara village in Fazilka, was arrested in Bathinda, and the police recovered the Etios car used in the crime, along with the police uniform he wore during the robbery. Preliminary questioning unveiled the involvement of four more individuals, prompting ongoing raids to apprehend them.

Two individuals in police uniforms targeted Raju Ram, an executive of a Delhi-based courier company, at Sangrur station around 2:50 am on Monday. The victim was en route to Bathinda to deliver the gold to jewellers. The assailants also seized his mobile phone during the incident.

Police pursuit and recovery of valuables

After the robbery, a case was registered by Sangrur Government Railway Police (GRP) against unidentified persons. Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Bathinda encountered the robbers in a car on Monday morning. A scuffle ensued near Bibiwala Chowk in Bathinda, leading to the robbers' escape. Despite this, the police pursued leads, resulting in the arrest of Ashish Kumar.

The robbers abandoned a box with valuables worth ₹1.75 crore, which was successfully recovered by the Bathinda police on Monday.

This incident highlights the swift action by Punjab Police in apprehending a suspect and their ongoing efforts to bring all involved individuals to justice.
